Welcome To Freeport, Maine...
Freeport was a sight of historic moments, and was one of the smallest cities to hold one of the darkest secrets. From deceit in the Governor's family, to a batch of unexplained suicides or to the disgusting horrors that lived within the Grand Freeport Hotel was only the start for the small town.
Back in 1654, Governor Mathias founded Freeport and started his life with wife, Helena. While things seemed to go well, Helena started to sense that things became strange when a new woman came into Mathias' wicked gaze. But beyond that, Helena sought out Freeport in order to start out a family, and to gain her own fame with her work in stitch-work. When she found Mathias, she found that love came easily. She was soon wedded to the new-found governor, but her marriage soon slipped through her fingers after Mathias started to show more interest in Grand Freeport's most seductive lady.
Marilyn Vondurant was Freeport's most enticing provocateur in it's peak of excellence. Though most knew little about the woman, but seen namely at the hotel that made Freeport a well visited city. When rumor started to surface that she was more than just the stunning maid, cleaning the halls and providing a warm smile, she was rumored to be a mistress, to the many of suitors that crossed the threshold, and to Mathias, the Govenor. Their relationship was one of pure lust and love, at least that's what Marilyn thought. But when Mathias started to pay Marilyn to keep her mouth shut, and that their relationship could still blossom. Helena catches wind of the secret affair, and is immediately infuriated by it. Not only was it a love blossoming, but Marilyn had the upper hand; Marilyn could produce her own children. Though no word surfaces about the secret affair, Helena threatens the duo to stop the affair and to keep Marilyn silent, until this blows over. Marilyn is disturbed, hurt and hatred crossing her mind every night. Was it Mathias in lust saying that Marilyn would be his only love? Death soon circulates through her every waking thought, until it becomes too much. While hearing "harlot" and "whore" spinning her hand, a can of gasoline in her hand, she stands on the ledge of the hotel, saying her last words silently to herself. But it's too much, death isn't the answer. But she'll never know if that's the case, because before she can step off the ledge and save herself, she slips, and meets the ground with a sickening crunch.
A year passed after Marilyn's death, and Mathias isn't dealing well, blaming himself for her death. It's his fault, he made her fall in love with a sick man. Alcohol can't soothe his state of mind, his insanity only slipping further and further with each bottle he drained. Climbing the stairs of Grand Freeport, he makes his way towards the only room he had ever known, finding his lover's room left just the way it was when she died. Grief slips around him, and in a drunken state swears he hears the voice of his beloved. "It doesn't hurt much, not when you're over here with me", is the last thing he remembers hearing, feeling the heavy blade press into his palm. The room would forever hold the crimson stain of a man without a future.
Helena, grief-stricken and torn by the thoughts that would lead the Governor to suicide, she finds herself by the river, that ran past the hotel. While writing a final note to her nonexistent family, she slips into the river and allows the water to swallow her whole. Her body was never found.
Flash forward to this era, the Hotel is brought back from the condemned state it was left in. Derick and Cadence Grandiuer now own it, descending from the family-line of Mathias. Though they know absolutely nothing of their lineage nor of the history of the building, they come into the world of the dark memories and sadistic deaths. They also didn't know that the suicides didn't stop at Mathias either.
The biggest, and most bloodiest suicide, was that of a Satanic ritual. Among the steps of the main entrance, a group of pagans attempted to destroy the building by cursing it with the power of the Devil. After killing themselves and spilling their blood over the golden staircase, they thought their work was done, they were sadly mistaken. For years, the building fell to dismay and disrepair, but was brought back when Derick and Cadence signed the rights of the building to them. But the horrors didn't stop there. Nor would they ever.
But now, the horrors have become more. Shapeshifters now roam the heavily wooded town, people lose their minds and covens of witches now occupy some of the homes around the town. With this going on, it's only a wonder that the spirits become aggravated and restless. And it'll take every ounce of respect between the classes of the supernatural and mental disturbed.
Can you survive a night in the most historic of hotels? Or will the restless spirits keep you from seeing the morning's light?
